Just thought you would like to see what my passenger seat looks like mid travel. Basically it's a mess of electronics, maps, water, and food. Oh it also doubles as a garbage bin. Welcome to a small slice of London in, where else, Lake Havasu, AZ.. They actually purchased this bridge from London, dismantled it piece by piece, shipped it to AZ and rebuilt it. Now there are hundreds of businesses and even a small tourist town that has developed around the bridge. Actually Lake Havasu is relatively young. It was started around the late sixties. I've got to say it's pretty cool. I can see why it's such a popular destination for college spring breakers. Some of the stores had aerial photos of spring break time that were amazing. Sections of the lake are so heavily populated with boats that you could walk for 2 square miles from boat to boat. In some of the pictures I couldn't even see water.
I got lucky and stayed right in London Bridge village at the London Bridge Resort. These are actually condos that people own and they rent out when not in use. I had a great view of the water and the bridge as you can see from the night picture. Problem is that it came at a price. Against the advisement of the front desk I insisted on a water view room. They told me they had one but it was over the night club. Being a Tuesday night I thought how loud can it be. Plus I'll probably be there until it closes anyway. Well after dinner I was wiped out from the 5 mile hike I did earlier that day in Joshua Tree. It turns out the club was one of those typical outdoor beach clubs. The music was blaring from outdoor speakers. Essentially it was the equivalent of having my bed in the middle of the dance floor. I was so tired I decided to try and sleep anyway and if I couldn't I'd follow the old saying, "If you cant beat them, join them." Well, I was actually able to semi sleep through it. However, it was one of those sleeps where the noises you hear are actually part of the dream you are having. So for 2 hours I dreamt that I was winning a wet t-shirt contest while dressed and dancing like John Travolta and funneling cheap beer. I just happened to be in Lake Havasu during the Jet Ski World Cup Finals. I spent the next day at the races which was very thrilling. As you can see from the truck picture this is big business with big sponsorship money. |
