Finally the California Coast! I had an awesome top off ride along the water until I got to Redwood National forest. From there I drove down an incredible road called Avenue of the Giants. The road swerves around trees the size of trucks. Some trees actually squeeze the road so narrowly only one car at a time can pass. I think the pictures speak for themselves. It is really unbelievable to see these trees up close. I spent Friday night in the sleepy little town called Arcata, CA. The waiter was a young kid a year out of college and doing the travel thing before he goes into teaching. He was originally from Ohio and was now living in the area. Since I was the only person in the place he spent some time drawing out maps to some great hikes in Humboldt Park. So the next morning before driving to San Fran I made the stop. Oh yea, it was an early night. The only thing going on in town on a Friday night was the 1962 Humboldt University Reunion in the room next to the restaurant. Can't wait to get to San Fran and actually go out! |
